Event Description: The Cherokee Heritage Center will be offering a Summer Genealogy Seminar at Lake Dardanelle State Park on August 18th, from 9a.m. to 3:30p.m. Presentations will include: online resources for doing Cherokee research as well as how to use those websites, how to start out when researching a Cherokee ancestor and what resources are available for that research, learning about other repositories and depositories where someone can do research on a Cherokee ancestor which includes public libraries, state archives, and historical societies, learn about the 13 detachments on the Cherokee removal (180 years since the first detachment left in August 1838) and how to use newspapers to do research in regards to the early educational system in the Cherokee Nation and how many historical events made the news. Registration starts at 8:30 am and sessions will start at 9 am. Lunch will be on your own. The workshop will end at 3:30 pm with door prize drawings. Registration fees: $40 for Cherokee National Historical Society Members and $50 for non-CNHS members. Seminar will be held in the visitor center Lakeview Room.
