| New Visitor Information Center |

|
|
 |
The new Lake Dardanelle Visitor Information and Education Center is a
$2.3 million facility that encompasses 10,527 sq. ft. and will house
exhibits, a multipurpose meeting room and classroom, and park staff
offices.
|
| Exhibits include 7000 gallons of freshwater
aquariums displaying the wide variety of species present in our
watershed. Several tanks are used to represent the tributaries, river
channel and reservoir that make this area of Arkansas so unique and
attractive to visitors. A separate tank will house smaller prey fish and
yet another will display the habits of the invasive zebra mussels. |

History panels and touch screen kiosks
bring to life the diverse history of the area. A large topographic relief
map provides audio interpretation on several area attractions. Our live
beehive exhibit allows you to observe nature in motion as the bees
work to create the comb right in front of your eyes. You can also
experience nature first hand through our dry and wet touch tables,
allowing you to hold items such as a live turtle, a shed snakeskin, or a
freshwater mussel. Touch screen computer kiosks located throughout the
center provide fish species identification, park history and information
on the resources available at Lake Dardanelle as well as all of the other
50 Arkansas State Parks. Our classroom includes the latest
technology for audio visual presentations as well as a lab area for water
quality and natural resource studies, furnishing park staff with the
resources to provide quality nature education to local students.
|
| The breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding landscapes, the
opportunities for one of a kind nature experiences, and carrying on our
mission of conservation, education, recreation and tourism for the people
of Russellville and visitors to the River Valley through this new facility
is all possible because of the support of this community and the people of
Arkansas through the 1/8 cent Conservation Amendment. This beautiful new
facility is scheduled to open in Spring 2003. |
